Right I'm a newbie on here, I just got round to stripping the inner seals on my tank after striping them and cleaning the joints I noticed two things only after attempting this - One make sure you have a back u corking gun for applying the silicone,...and two make sure you use masking tape which "sticks" and also doesnt let excess silicone seep under it! Tank looks a tad messy in my opinion and I'm half tempted to wait till its cured and do it again,.."OH The time!!!" But also concerned that the seals might not be strong enough The main join seals are good,...just the inner ones were a bit shabby looking, But Am I wrong to start questioning my own skills on such a big tank,...Well not BIG BIG but big enough. My two lessons are god tape and a back up corking gun because the laps in applying the silicone beading around the tank for it to snap at the last minuet making me rush looking for another one so I can continue it before the silicone skins, whilst it took me a little longer than usual it made running my ringer over the seal a little delayed resulting in a rather messy looking inner seal :(

If the silicone between the panes of glass are good and strong then the tank should stay together okay. The inner seal that you are describing is more or less the sealing or water proofing. If you feel that this has been compromised and not water proof then you should try it again. If its just a little messy but other wise ok you may chose to live with it.
It needs to be applied in one continuous bead to insure a waterproof seal.

Well as i was doing it alone lol,.. and the corking gun broke halfway round I then continued the bead from where it ended and then smoothed round the bottom and up the corners with my finger,...got uber messy, and dont look too tidy but looking it over now there looks to be a good 9mm of thick silicone seated where the side meets the bottom then a good 12mm of sloppy looking silicone where it ran up to where the cheap masking tape was lol,... So other than an ugly looking seal it looks like it MIGHT be ok?....in another 2 days il try 3 inches of water "well a sump full of water" to see if there is any seepage

you could use these and not your fingers haha

There meant for grout as in tiles but its perfect for resealing a tank. Just drop buy a hardware store, you dont really need a continuous bead as it will move the silicone and it makes it really easy if your doing it yourself to achieve clean edges. But use tape of course.

Awesome link to what looks like a tool I was dreaming existed! :D Im gonna see how the tank fairs in a couple of days, if not a strip back reseal and the use of one of these will be on the cards :D Will need to see if they sell them in the uk :D
