OK, I'm ready to start re-sealing the 180. It is an older tank and has NO braces, totally open on the top. I've never seen a tank larger than 3 feet without braces.

Anyway, I looked up the manufacturer (Modern Aquariums from Saginaw, MI) and couldn't find anything on them. I wanted to see if all the tanks made by them were un-braced.

Should I leave the as is or have braces cut? I was thinking two braces 6 inches wide made of 1/2 inch Glass to cross the top.

Personally I would brace it, peace of mind and it holds up the lids :D.

It won't hurt anything to do it either.

Use a bar clamp when you install them to put a slight pressure on the tank walls.
