A friend of my uncle has a 220 gallon aquarium that has a small leak on one of the corners. I was looking to buy one on craigslist but it seems I have stumbled upon a better option. Is it possible to remove the silicone from a 220g and then apply my own? If anyone has any experience with this please give me all the advice that you can.

You can do it yourself but i paid £40 to have my 180 resealed so if it was me id ask your local fish shop etc to see if they can do it.

Good luck.

ya i would pay the extra an find someone that can do it for u. bc 220 is alot of water on the ground. just my 2 cents tho. but i have seen it done on here. im sure there is a few threads on it as well. it can be done yourself, just make sure u do all your research an dont take any short cuts.

You can do it if u have some experance with tools. i did it to my 55gal but my 150 gallon had the local aquarium shop do it for 100$

not all silicone are the same. The type the aquarium manufacturer uses is totally different from what we buy at home depot. probabaly best not to do it at all. just my 2 cents.

Good advice. I've had sucess with resealing large tanks. If you plan on doing it yourself,as mentioned above, don't take any shortcuts and be patient when letting the silicone dry. I usually set the tank up in the garage or outside(weather permitting) after the seal has dried, and fill over half way with water and let sit for a few days to check for leaks. Check out the sticky on tank sealing.

Good luck,
Chris
