on an icecube.....
i just bought a used tank form a LFS it was used for turtles and had two glass partishions in it, so the tank was seperated into three smaller tanks, i removed the glass as best i could but the tank is now leaking from at least two of the places ware the baffles were, my question is can i just put a dab a bit of silicone in the spot the baffles were(about 1/2" space ware the silicone was removed)or do i have to remove more silicone along the bottom and reseal the wole bottom of the tank? silicone wont bond to silicone right? sorry but this is my first time resealing a tank:confused:

I would consider anything less than stripping down to glass and resiliconing the whole tank a temporary patch job,it will probably leak in a few months if not sooner if you just do the spots. You dont have to take the tank apart just remove the exposed bead.
I use ge #1 window and door on all my projects.Be sure the tube does NOT say bioseal or it will kill all your fish.A caulking gun is the way to go.

The key to a good seal is getting the glass clean.scrape with razor blades go over it with a scotchbrite pad then rubbing alchohol, then razor it one more time.Cant stress it enough if the glass is clean, the finished tank wont leak.

Wear latex gloves, the cheap ones from the paint dept are fine. You will get it on your hands and it is tough to get off. After laying down a bead with the caulking gun, smooth the whole bead with a gloved finger.Work outside and let it cure outside. The acetic acid fumes are no good for you.I usually let it cure 4 or more days.

:iagree: i would add to use masking tape surrounding the bead of silicone. it will make your life a whole lot easier and less messy!
