I recently got a 36 gallon tank and I'm using a HOB filter right now until I get an xp2 for it. I have a 30ppi (fine) foam from my established 125g African Cichlid tank in the HOB as the filter and about 1.5-2 inches of established ehfisubstrat in the bottom of the HOB. I also used the sand from the 125 to put into the 36.

Everything is reading 0 for the past 4 days (ammonia, nitrates, nitrites) and I have 2, 1" neon tetras in there right now to help with the cycling. I want to add my 4, 1" synodontis petricolas to the tank but not quite sure how long I should wait to add them. Will the tank mini cycle some or not at all since all I have used completely established materials?

Thanks!

Put em in one at a time...You sould be fine. I squezed my sponges into the tank in addition to seeding with established media and ornaments. Throw a few fake plants from other tanks in as well. Wait a day or so test, test, and re-test. Add your fishes......I don't think it will mini cycle, but you never know just test and stay up on changes.
