I know most of the threads here are focused towards herps, but I'm ready to step it up in the mammal area. So here's the deal.... I currently have a 75gal planted south American tank, a Brazilian red and white tarantula, and a chinchilla. In the past I've owned pacman frog, breaded dragon, pall python, hamsters, treefrogs, turtles, geckos. Basically your run of the mill petsmart/petco "exotics". I am looking to step up to a more exotic mammal in the near future, and am looking for suggestions. I will definitely put in the time, money, and effort needed to properly care for this animal. I just need some suggestions for a good starter. As this will be my first "true exotic", I need something not crazy expensive and fairly easy to care for. I've been browsing the internet and looked at a variety of things, such as, kinkajous, munjac deer, spotted genets, wallabys, servals, caracals, jungle cats, etc... I definitely want something that will interact with me and won't just hide in it's enclosure all day.

What do you all think???? All suggestions are welcome!

short tail opossum, and savannahs could be added to that list. Look up the exotic laws in your state.

Figure out which exotic mammal appeals to you the most and learn all you can about it,decide if it suits you and if you can properly provide for it and if you can legally possess it,then go for it.
