So I just saw this episode on River Monsters about the Longfin Eel in New Zealand...pretty freaky :)

Does anyone keep these kinds of eels? I mean, I know there's stuff like Peacock Eels, Tire Track Eels, etc., but what about REAL eels?

Ive seen that episode many times... There is honestly NO way they will drag you and kill you though! But never really seen them in the pet trade...

I got an American eel once that came in with a bunch of feeders when I used to work at petco. No idea how it got in with the feeders cuz I've heard of bass, catfish and crayfish but never an actual eel.

As for real eels, there's the gymnothorax polyuranodon which is a true moray that is found in saltwater but can also live its entire life in fresh.

I have an Australian long finned eel at work who is in with a jardini and some barramundi. It's over 2ft long and a savage! He's definitely the boss of the tank

Anyone ever heard of a tiger eel I saw one a while ago and I gotta say it's the coolest looking freshwater eel I've ever seen, there real hard to get, I've been trying to get one now for two years and can never find it, if anyone has any info on them let me know

^ as far as i know that is a synonym for gymnothorax poluradon and the only vendor ive ever seen with them is wes with Rare Fish hes under the vendor page

those American eels can live in fresh or salt water, once threw a couple in a kitty pool after going striped Bass fishing,a few couple of weeks later when I was going fishing they were still alive and very active,so if you really want one just go to a bait store when the striped bass are running. I have caught ones three feet long in the ocean while flukeing. small ones about 12 to 14 inches are like $2.50
