I am setting up a tank for fancy goldfish and really like CaribSea’s Super Naturals "Blue Ridge" gravel. My question is how much per gallon should be used, I have read 10lbs per gallon is the standard but want to be sure. Thank You

I have large fancy gold fish tanks for some 20 years. You want fine gravel as goldfish are substrate strainers. That is they filter the gravel through their mouth to find nutriance.. It is best to put a 1" layer or so, so they get most of the substrate worked through to keep it from becoming anaerobic. This amounts to about anywhere from 1lb to 5 lbs per gallon depending on the tank base dimension. Tall tanks require less. short wide tanks require more to get to that 1" level. but extra and wash and fill it one bag at a time until you reach 1' to 1 1/2' anymore then this you will have issues. It is best to keep them on longer wider tanks then tall ones so they can move around to keep their gut clean.

I you t5 6500 kelvin plus a 2300 kelvin t5 and moon light leds at night. this gives the color i want plus the lighting the java fern 'titan ' needs. My next larger purchase will most likely be large full spectrum led fixture. the gold fish do not care I just want the color to pop.. I personally like the Black gravel in my goldfish tanks to help with the color (adding to my comments above)
