It's been about two years since I did my sandstone background in my 75 gallon and I never posted any pictures of it. It was supposed to be a "test" project and if I liked it I was going to put the same thing in my 220. The look is awesome, but I took a tank I could move by myself and made it difficult for two people to move because of the weight
. I could only imagine what it would do to the weight of my 220. If I find a permanent home for the tank I still might do it because it will have to be destroyed to move it once all the rock is in place.
Now what I did was take small pieces of a sandstone from southern Indiana (called Indian Creek, Indiana Hill, and many other things
) and cut them in half giving me two sides I could silicone to the tank. I layed the tank on it's side and test fit all the pieces and worked out a design. From there I picked once piece up at a time and siliconed them to the tank. Within a day I filled the tank up and haven't had a single piece come loose. I did have to pull one piece off once due to a stuck clown loach and i had to break the rock because the hold was so strong.
First pic shows with lights on in the room and the flash on. I still haven't painted the back so with the room lights on you can see through the back.
The second shot really gives a great idea of what the tank looks like.
