I have 4 baby redbellies that are all about an inch long. I had a 55 long cycled and reay to go for them when I brought them home the other day, and they are now enjoying their new home. However, I know they will not last forever in a tank of this size, and would someday like to upgrade to a ~125g. I say someday because I'm a college student and at this point in my life everything is very dynamic lol.

How long until I will need to re home them?

Will being in a 55 affect growth? My dad always used to say that if they don't have the room to grow they won't, although that seems counterintuitive (he was no expert by any means, lol,) or will they just continue to growing until they don't have adequate room and I upgrade?

55 is a good grow out for about 6-8 months imo, after that a 75 is the minimum, 90-125 is ideal! Once they hit 4-5" its time to upgrade!

Change the water atleast once a week, once their a few inches they will be pooping machines and need more frequent wc! Try to get them on pellets and fish fillets!

I'm running a 55 also, id say about 6 months

I'd like to upgrade to a 75 or a 90 sometime in the future. The 55 just isn't wide enough to accomodate them when they get bigger. 75 is almost 20g per fish, and I keep up with water changes well and have plenty of filtration. I'd like a 90 though.

Im assuming you"ll end up with 3 if you stick with the 55.

To ensure stress levels of the fish stay low and the fish happy, a 150 gallon would be more appropriate, that way theres still room for proper hiding spots and aquarium plants live or just decoration.

I think that 150 is serious overkill for 4. Additionally, 150's have the same footprint as 125's I believe, so why not just go with a 125 for p's

I keep 6 in a 125 without issues until on pair starts to breed other than they are very happy. For the 55 I would say till they are like 6" or so but more important is where the tank is they tend be be a skittish fish and mine would hit the side if the tank hard till I put cheep backdrop on 3sides but in busy area might be more skittish with less traffic might be able to last a little longer but not much hope this helps
