Ok guys. Going down to florida next week. Miami. Im thinking of kidnapping some canal exotics and bringing them back to my house. I already have a 40 gallon set up. I was thinking p bass fry but apparently they have gamefish status so thats a big no no. I will be bringing a 10 gallon tank or 20 gallon rubbermaid box, aswell as food for them. I am thinking african cichlids if I can find them. I will also be bringing a filter, and a heater. My car has outlets. What other species do they have in canals there. That are exotic? I think midas?

also I am absoloutley sure I am getting a 75 gallon tank soon..... looks like they have tilapia... always wanted one of those

Florida definitely would be an interesting place to go and try to catch some pest exotics. Sounds like they're all over the place.
yeah If I lived there I would get a pond, fill it with dividers, catch as many midas/pacus/red devils as I could AND EXPORT THEM. I cant beleive no one has thought of it yet

The Midas and Red Devils are hybrids, the pacu get too big, and diseases. Not a good idea for a legitimate business whatsoever. Not even good for making a bit of money for fun.

a lot of nervous boys in this thread. the game warden wont throw you in the clink for removing invasive species he might deputize you though. i dont know about the length of your trip but i dont think you should have them captive in a 20 gallon container for long enough that you'd need to feed them.

this is true. Florida F&W doesn't care about anything as long as it's not snakehead or clarias. There are very few fish that's are illegal to take home, eat, or do anything else with. Kill any snakehead or clarias on sight and you're good basically. Obviously don't do anything stupid or take game fish but you'll be fine for most cichlids except pbass. We have africans and SA in every pond or ditch here.

I'm not saying don't do it, I'm saying always be aware of state regulations when handling fish like this.

Florida F&W may be fine with it, but other states are not.
