I noticed my jack dempsey and green terror were flashing and jerking around so while i ws examining them I saw white spots on their fins and white spots on my kissing gouramie's fins. my oscar doesn't have any , I bumped the temp up to 83 and started using nox ich , it says to use for 3 days , and to only use half for bottom dwellers and seeing as I have a bristle nose and a bichir I had to use half , I now bumped the temp up to 88 and lowerd the water level to increase the surface agitation caused by the filters.
I posted here because no one ever replys in the disease section

I was wondering if cichlids can take this heat for awhile?
also is it true that keeping the temp around 88 for 2 weeks can cure ich?

won't the salt kill my bristlenosed?

I've done this treatment with catfish (like pimelodids) and it had no ill effects and the ich was treated successfully

Dissolve the salt first with a cup of tank water. Keep stirring until there are less or no more grains visible. Add to the tank slowly to avoid the fish from suffering osmotic shock. Whether it be iodized table salt or aquarium salt, both are fine for use contrary to most people's beliefs. More information on ich can be found in FW Diseases section. We have sticky threads there for meds and diseases.

last night I added 1tbs of salt / 5 gallons and most of the ich seems to be gone off the fish and my pleco surivived , I added an air pump , but now my oscar is covered in extra slime and bubbles?? shes acting normal though is this caused by the salt?
also should I keep the temp at 88 for two weeks? and after water changes should I replace the salt ?

Ich will continue to hatch for a while, and try to infect your fish, the salt only kills the free swimming tomites, so you need to continue the treatment for at least a couple weeks. I usually treat for a month. If you have a way of measuring salinity, it is best to keep it at or above 3ppt (parts per thousand (sea water is 35ppt)). The free swimming ich can tolerate below 3ppt but not at or above that concentration.
Ich is immune to treatment while on the fish and in the gravel, the raised temp causes them to hatch, and that is when the salt kills them.

okay one last question lol , all my fish are looking fine , but do you have to keep your tank lights off while treating with salt and high temps? or do you only turn the lights off for chemical medications?
