I just go my 125 gallon tank used its one of the older ones half inch thick. has no supports just glass and doesnt have slate/shale bottom ethier. The guy before me siliconed 1 corner on each side of the panes on the opposite sides. It looks to me that the Tank split. He did a herendous job.

Do i need to take off the whole pane and redo both sides of it or can i just do the sides that look to have been split?

Has anyone ever encountered this problem before? If so how did you fix it?

Also what is the strongest silicone to use? I have GE2 clear would that work good? It's 100% silicone and has no mold inhibitors. I really need to figure out how to fix this and were to start. I bought this tank as a project to do. This will be my first tank fix and i would love to do it correct my first time!

Please let me know what you think. Im open to any ideas or techniques you have used. Thanks in advance! -Kyle

I am currently resealing a 220 I just got. I think from my research on this, most people will tell you not to use GE II to use GE I made for windows and doors. I also believe the best repair is to check the seem between the panes of glass and if they are good then all you need to do is cut out all the old silicone inside the tank, scrape clean with a razor blade, clean with acetone or alcohol and reseal with GE I or for the strongest bond buy GE RTV108.

The panes have black silicone inside the seam therefore it must have split. Horible job i must say. Worst possible. How would i reseal the panes?

You must cut out all the old silicone since silicone will not stick to silicone. Once you have it all removed clean it with some alcohol or acetone to get it completely clean and grease free. Then you just apply a new beed of silicone around the entire inside.

I would use GE RTV 108. Don't use GE II as it does have some mold inhibitors and many people have experienced fish deaths with it. GE silicone I is fish safe.
