Hi All,

Currently cycling my tankmy, but my local water seems to be really soft and slightly acidic according the the test kit approximatley 6.4-6.6. Can I add crushed coral into my filter to increase the PH? I plan on keeping JD's in the tank

Tank set-up 55 gallon eheim 2126, ehiem 2213, 2 maxijet 1200 pumping the ugj.

Thanks for the help

I've seen people locally add it to their substrate..

I was thinking that initially, but I ended up using a brownish round pebble gravel, wouldn't really look right mixed in with it

Was thinkin jd's grean terrors and maybe convicts. Initially though just JD's if I can find nice ones.

You could only keep one pair of JD in a 55. Nothing else because that would even be stretching it. But I think you should just leave the water alone. The fish will aclimate. It is actually better to aclimate them to your water then messing with the water itself. They need consistency more than anything.

Thanks Chad,

Thats what I was thinking, defintely not trying to over crowd the tank, was going to start with small JD's maybe 4 or 6 try to grow them out and remove the others once I can establish sex of the fish or having them pair up naturally

thanks for the help

Ok.... Good luck

you could, i'd say why bother? i've kept jacks in a variety of water conditions and they really seem to do well no matter what, provided the water is changed regularly, at least every two weeks, but i'd go once a week. they are very tough fish and it is difficult to screw up with them. i agree with your idea to get a small group of them and then just keep the nicest ones, and in a group of six i'm sure you'll get one that turns out spectacular. they really are beautiful fish as adults
