ok had my FX6 up for almost 2 weeks and tonight it started to hum. no sand in tank and cant be clogged as poo isnt that bad, largest fish is a 6 in severum. the hum is not a bad sound but going from quiet to hum in 2 weeks, is a bad......

PS>.. yea yea actually the ehiems are on there way 2262 and pro 3xl 2080 :)
 
Unplug and plug back in is a easy try.

yes, i will try that, I just assumed there was something wrong... let me do that.. feel kinda stupid now
 
There is a good chance that you're sucking in air. On my FX5, it happens if the water level goes below where the flexible intake is attatched to the intake tube. The canister starts humming and the output shoots out micro bubbles. Easy fix, unplug the filter, add some water or put any intake portions exposed to air under the water line, and plug back in. Also, when you unplug the canister, it will purge itself of the air inside it. They're supposed to automatically purge themselves of air every 24 hours, but in that time, the humming and such would still happen, so doing what I suggested above is still a good idea.
