If your question is about having to replace the Eheim Ehfilav media, the answer is probably not. That is your biological media & should only be rinsed off in a bucket of fish tank water so as not to kill off the good bacteria.

What else do you have in your filter?
How long have you had this filter?
What size tank is it on?
What kind of fish & how many?

to many questions i thinking of using the filter on a tank don't have yet.

Why would you want to use this, are you planning a type tank where there is gonna be alot of particle waste that you are not going to clean?
