Was in a hurry, didn't give the tank a look over before starting. I had noticed my female L. araguaiae had been displaying to the male the last couple of days ... but he just kept chasing her off instead of doing a response display and didn't think too much of it. Wasn't until I was almost done with the WC when I noticed this:

Doh. :screwy:

No, I saw them in time ... I just expect the female to eat them up given the disruption. Right now the tank is refilled and she's hovering over them, but I'm keeping it dark hoping to calm her down.

Man nice save, I've vac'ed some fry before for the same reason! Never thought I could jerk a vac tube out of an aquarium so fast until that moment lol.

Well, as of last night they are still around!!! Quite a surprise for a first spawning (that I know of at least). They moved the wigglers last night, and I hope moved them once again once the lights are off. Probably didn't like all the camera work as they moved. Best shot I got, male moving wigglers the first move.

I've done that too. Turned over pots to vacuum to find eggs or wiggles. :/ at least they didn't mind the disturbance.

Sadly, the fry didn't make it. I had to head out of town the day the fry became freeswimming. I left one of the two tank lights on, hoping to encourage some algae so the fry might have some tiny buggies to eat until I got back. Twelve or so of the fry made it til I got home. But the following day I couldn't see any. These guys are tough, the fry are too small to handle baby brine at first.

The male started doing the normal cichlid thing, chasing the female around to breed again. Had to rearrange the 'scape to ease some pressure, but I guess it worked. Tonight she started displaying back to him.
