I want to reboot my computer because it is starting to get slow and lag. I Got this comp a little over a year ago and i think its time to get rid of the junk on it!

I was wondering how to keep all of my ITunes, I downloaded all the songs off of Limewire. If i delete the songs off of Limewire it will delete the songs off of my ITunes, so i need both. Anyway to keep my music and reboot my computer??

Any help is appreciated, if i could get a walk thorough that would be great too!

Thanks-
Zach

I'm the last person you want to ask for computer help, but when I restored my computer last year, I compressed the music folder (I guess in your case, the Limewire folder) into a .rar file (using the WinRAR program) and burned it on a CD.

Once the computer is restored, I just transferred the files back on the computer.

get a big usp drive or external hard drive..........click, drag and transfer.........plus these are always good to have as backup:D

500 songs? ONLY!?

By reboot - do you mean format? if your HD isn't partitioned, it makes it very hard to save... you need to partition it prior to installing Windoez you mat need to invest in a little flash disk, or something.. .. . .

And that's only 1 folder :P I have a few more unsorted stuff LOL

With Itunes - I'm not sure how that program works, nor why you are using it... but unless you have legally purchased the songs, maybe consult itunes > help or read some forums, with re: to limewire, there should be a "completed" or "my shared" or something like that where your files would be living.. .

all you need to do is to save them to a flash or burn them to a DVD as "data" that way it will be stored as mp3 format thus making the files a lot smaller to save.

hope some of this works.

You're going to have to burn to disk. I wouldn't bother with rarring them really Had to move my music over to a 110gig partition, the 80gig was too full. Partitioning the drive would be best, that way you can have a partition for just your music and then you wouldn't have to worry about backing it up when it comes time to format. After the format you will have to reload all the songs back into iTunes either way so don't worry about them leaving your itunes library. Also 500 songs burnt as a data disk shouldn't take up too many CD-Rs, maybe 6. They'd all fit on one DVD-R if you have a dvd burner.

I remember compressing about 300 songs into one CD using the WinRAR program... with space left.

woah then you're pretty lucky. Your mp3's must be recorded in a lower format. 500 songs @approx 4.5 mbs each = 2,250 mb. The largest compression winrar can do is < 50%. Even in the best case scenario @ 50% you're still looking at about 1GB of songs compressed. You're going to need 2 or 3 cd's. IMO I think you could get it on 4

hi all, Zeppelin get Partition Magic and create a second partition in your HD to store your music, then format the primary partition and reinstall windoze, or, doesn´t have your PC a DVD burner? most Home PCs have it, you can put 5GB in 1 DVD, don´t bother to compress .mp3 files with winrar or winzip, they are almost incompressible.
