i have two smallmouth bass (about 5" each) and i was wondering if there was a food item that they might excel on. right now im feeding them live feeder goldfish, but i keep hearing that the goldfish dont have much protien and such. i was thinkin about ghost shrimp, but i dont see them very often near me. if anyone has any ideas that would be great.

Read up on some of these recent posts and you will find what you are looking for. If you want to help out the wallet a bit, train them on frozen foods (krill, shrimp, etc). And then you can try training on freeze-dried foods. Then do live minnows as treast and whatnot.

Frozen shrimp (from the grocery, not the pet shop) and nightcrawlers are great nutritious foods. I would avoid feeder fish altogether.

if you can collect hellgramites easily, get some of those and cut off the heads before feeding them to the SMB. hellgramites are natural SMB food and are very nutritious to boot.

I agree and smallies are very easily adapted to market shrimp, I think its the sent.

+1 as above. Getting them on a good quality pellet and market shrimp is what I feed my smallie and LMB. The pellets usually have 38% or better protein and the shrimps are a good source of protein and the fish really liked them.
