I, like many others, looked at knifeys with total indifference for a long, long time. Recently my favorite LFS had a going out of business sale, and the manager talked me into picking up a brown African. I must say I am more than happy with my guy. He's about 5", lives in my 125, and is the smartest fish I have ever seen. I love turning off the lights and watching him hunt feeders. My next project will be a 500g indoor above ground pond. The perfect home for a Royal Clown!

sorry about the lfs thing. how much was it? right know my fishkeeping insanity is fulled by king kong blood parrots, bichers and knives!
I used to have an African Knife, but my hoplo Catfish ate it, by the way, does anyone know anything about them?
The African knives are much smaller than the asian ones. The max size on them is less than 12". They also do not have a dorsal fin. You can pick them up cheap at most Petsmarts, about $7. (Not typically the best place to buy (healthy) fish, but they are cheap and if you find one with a knowledgable aquatic manager you can sometimes find a real deal.)
