Hi all, my basement is coming along nicely with my 6ft Amazon river themed tank and gaming set-up. However I still feel the need to set up another tank for the smaller Amazon Basin fish. It is a 4ft tank (339.8ltr.) Any recommendations?

What I am after are something to hang around the surface, a shoal or two of fish to work from side to side around the mid-level, some bottom feeders for my left over food workforce, and a peaceful dwarf cichlid that get on in groups rather than alone. For the finishing touch... an unusual fish.

The tank will be heavily decorated with real wood, catappa leaves and live plants so its going to be a really nice black water set up.

I was thinking for mid level, a shoal of Cardinal Tetras and a shoal of Rummy-Nose Tetras. For the Cichlids maybe Rams? I am stumped for ideas on everything else though. Any help will be appreciated.

i never thought i would say this, well until i brought a pair the other week and have found a new love for these little fish, but what about Apistogramma cacatuoides

I ADORE those. They look awesome but what are they like in a small group? Thinking a group of four or so.
I wonder if they would be ok in a tank with rams as well? Have two dwarf cichlid species together, that would look nice.

im no expert and i keep mine on there own, but mine seem fine in a group with one male and few (two in my case ) females and I have seen people keep these with rams but I dont know if its recommended but the space they will have should give them enough to get away from each other, with some live plants and natural barriers I would have thought all would be good (i have never kept rams).

Only reason I really say Rams is because I have kept them in the past. I really liked my little Bolivians. Angelfish are also a species to consider however they are notorious for gobbling small fish like Cardinals so may pass on them.
