I like the big head turtle & mata mata.. pretty cool looking turt..
I've never heard of mata mata before though.. any info on them?

Another good option would be a Staurotypus Salvinii, also known as Chiapas giant musk turtle.

This turts can be wild and very interesting to keep, unfortunately they are not easy to get.

By the way don't let the word "Giant" cheat on you, they don't relly grow bigger than 10" or 12".

Cheers.

Matas are really cool but think twice, they are also very delicate turtles, in fact one of the hardest to keep healty long term and very challenging to bred, they need lots of small live fish that you must bred yourself, very clean, acid and warm water and lots of hidding places in a huge tank in order to trive. They also get huge;)

After a long search, I still prefer alligator snapping turtle.....
Can anyone tell me their needs(aside from huge space); water condition, food, growth rate, etc.. Also, are they hardy or delicate turtles?
Please advise.. thx

crazy growth rate, they will "taste" a lot of different foods, but tilapia are easy to provide for them. they are a pretty hardy turtle and built for battle!:headbang2:headbang2:headbang2
