I wanted to get some peoples recommendations on types of sharks for a 250g Hexagon tank? I'm into SPS and LPS corals too but I heard that sharks won't bother corals only clams? I was thinking a banded cat shark... since those are the most readily available. Any type of Stingray that would go well with the cat shark? TIA

Banded 'catshark' is really a brown banded bamboo shark - which will be four feet (give or take) as an adult.

You could do a Cortez, Round or Yellow ray if you have the flooor space.

As for sharks/rays and coral.... it's usually a big no. You're sharks will tend to knock over stuff and when they produce waste, kiss your coral good bye.

What are the exact dimensions of the tank, usually hex tanks are taller and don't provide enough length to house anything of any size however 250g is pretty big so it may be ok for a little while depending on measurements.

sorry I should have posted the dimensions.... it has a big footprint - 80.5" x 26.5" x 26"

And I have a pretty big skimmer.

here are a few shots from a while back when we were moving it in.

I'd say look at coral or marbled catsharks for something that size.

ok cool... and they wont eat coral right? just pollute the water around it? what about a stingray buddy to go with him?

sorry for so many questions I'm new to aggressive tanks and plan on doing plenty of research before starting

Actually - I would suggest either a Cortez Stingray (Urobatis maculatus) or a small catshark such as a Cloudy catshark or Izu Catshark. These small catsharks tend to be small in size (about 16-20"). However they are also species that require water temps under 68F.The Cortez Stingray will likely be the best choice - given that it's fairly easy to find, only grows to about 16" TL, and prefers water temps in the range of a normal Aquarium (72-82F).
