I have a yellow-eye Kole Tang that was leftover from when I had a more peaceful tank.

Well now my tank includes a snowflake eel, picasso trigger, pinkface wrasse, and a marine betta. I had read tangs can work fine in an aggressive tank but the more I have read the more I see that most suggest that the Kole tang is the most docile tang and the "weakest link" of the tangs in an aggressive tank.

Well the other day my trigger beat the fool out of him when the tang tried to get territorial. Completely his fault, but also he was completely unable to defend himself... should I just go ahead and rid myself of the tang since long-term he probably won't do well?

I would if the trigger is going to beat him up. Basically you have to decide which one you like more and get rid of the other one.

Or set up another tank..... :)

Dustin, devils advocate. Watch what yo do to people.

First its one tank, the next thing you know you need a commercial de-humidifier in your house.

Well it's the only fish the trigger has gone after, he hasn't so much as looked at the others, I'd hate to get rid of the trigger over one fish... Looks like my tang may be going back in the coming days. He was attacked in my 20 long quarantine. I'm going to let the tang finish healing up and then see how he does in the main tank with the trigger.

Here's to hoping.

Oh, ya not surprised he was attacked in a confined space like that. He may very well be fine in the bigger tank.

I may sound crazy, but I don't recommend more than one fish in a quarantine tank. If you need to put 2 fish in at the same time then 2 tanks are need. The reasons being:
1. If either fish has any parasites or infections they will give it to the other fish and then both will need to be treated.
2. Quarantine is a time to not only check health, but to get the new fish to rest up from the long transportation time and get adjusted to a captive diet. Having another fish leads to food competition and more stress.
3. Aggression(the issue you had). Fish that will coexist in the display tank may/will not coexist in the small confines of a QT. Even if they don't go after each other it is another stressor.

I know the idea of keeping even one QT tank is crazy, let alone two, but it really is beneficial if you are planning on introducing multiple fish at once.

I think in most cases that only one fish should be introduced at a time and with proper ordering there won't be any problems. Obviously there are some exceptions to this, but not too frequently.

The second QT tank can be nothing more than a rubbermaid tote with a heater, powerhead, airstone(other QT should have one too so you can just put on a splitter). The one downfall here that I can attest to is that it can be difficult to see how your fish is doing, i.e. if there are parasites on the body, in a rubbermaid.

Thanks for the advice. My tang was a holdover in my QT because he developed an infection 2 days before being released into the main tank. I had the trigger on hold in anticipation of him being the only fish in QT

Oh ya thats right, mouth fungus. I forgot about that.

I am going to have to set up a couple QT's in the basement for the crazy stocking plans that I have for this 125g.

Yes you will!!! Personally think you already should have. You are definitely taking some risks by not doing so my friend.

This is true...but nothing is sick as of yet...and that is basically the same thing.

I will add some more fish without QTing...but once I add the tangs...everything will be QTed
