Recommended tank size for VATF?

How large of a tank does one need? What about multiple VATFs?

I had 4 VATF and one GATF in a 150 and that was only until they got to be around 5-6". You can get by with that with a lot of current for a little while but any bigger you need to move. Currently they're all over 7" and I've moved them to my 650g. Sometimes I still think that's a little small. When they chase each other they have to start turning just as they get up to speed.

These fish are like top fuel dragsters. You can't drive a dragster in a parking lot and expect to drive it very far. lol

Haha that is very true. Great analogy.. That tank seems impressively massive though! Do you have any pics of it? How small of tank do you think I can I get by with with just one VATF?

With just one VATF you could probably get by with a 2-300g. Just make sure you have lots of current.

i agree, 220 will get ya a couple years maybe a little more.... once they start pushing a foot, wider and longer is always better.... and very good analogy sashimi

For one ADULT you need at least an 8x3 footprint. For a group, 8x4 or greater. Bigger is always better.

Oh, and lots of current is a must.

I envy all of you guys with any species of tiger fish. Its my goal to have one or two of those one day.

What does VATF stand for and where did you guys find yours? And by current in the tank do you guys mean like powerheads?

Im pretty sure it stands for vittatus african tiger fish and yes the current comes from powerheads.
