Hey mfk. Some of you may have seen my thread about the jaguar cats with ich i recently purchased. Progress is being made, cats are both eating regularly, and are out roaming at lights out time. Today i came home to find one of them upside down on her back, breathing a little heavier than normal. I dont know if shes just comfortable in this position today, or if something is actually wrong. As far as I can tell, shes barly moved from this position since Iv been home from work. Any ideas? Recovery has been great, showing only good signs of improvment, until this.

You might need to get antibiotics. A bacteria infe tion is probably affecting its swim bladder causing it to be stuck updise down.

Iv been dosing with paraguard and salt for about two weeks. I honestly dont thinks its bacterial, iv only seen progress so far, this is the first bad sign. Although shes changing position every now and then, but still upside down and hasnt left her driftwood. I guess Ill wait until the lights go out and see if she comes out to roam tonight and watch for a bit. The other jaguar seems totaly fine.

Post some water parameters. Add some aeration for now. Sometimes these cats will wedge themselves in spots even upside down. Since you saw them swimming about normal. Would do that for now. see what others think.

I'm glad I'm wrong
No one saying ur wrong either. Probably gotta see what it's doing outside that wood. You could be right, hoping for the best.

Waterchanges are every monday 25% with a few quick poop cleans during the week. Everything literally at 0 or very close to "prestine". I dont test every week because im anal at keeping it clean and i havnt botherd to pickup a fresh test kit, usualy borrow buddies from work. Plus with the ich i didnt want any spikes at all. Sorry I cant give exact readings, you'll have to take my word for it.

you'd be surprised how many cichlid keepers don't test water, as long as you keep up your 50-70% WC weekly, chances are good you don't need to. I've tested my PH once since I started my tank in November, and I just use water from the main tank to fill a new one if I want to start another, add some bio-matter like moving bio-wheels around, swap media, gravel or putting an old used filter cartridge in a new tank. You're good. I put fish in them as soon as they're set up. Cichlids are easy, catfish not much different IMO....very hardy and tolerant

Last night both cats were out and about the tank. This morning before leaving for work, cat was back in her driftwood but sitting right side up as normal. So i guess she had a day of "im going to sit like this all night". Just worried me because of the rough start they had comming into their new home.
