hey i just bought a jd 2 days ago and his fins are torn realy bad he was in with a bigger cuban, he basically has no tail jus three bits like a fork, top and bottom fins are pretty much gone id say he's about 7-8 inchs.
his fins should grow back shouldn't they and is there any secret to healing him quicker and how long will it take do u reckon with the seriousness of his wounds and will he grow colour on the missing fins?

Should grow back and color up. Keep the water pristine clean - even add some salt to help fight bacterial infection and regeneration of the slime coating. Keep a close eye out for any type of fungal growth around the wounds as it's easier to cure in it's early stages.

thanks bro i didn't mention that he got beat up just under 2 months ago and has just been sitting at the lfs,he hasn't really healed since i first saw him but is that coz he was under feed and in a tiny tank at the lfs?

i agree, a bit of salt and water changes...if you can manage, at least twice a week. i've found nothing heals like clean water. sometimes i wonder about lfs that don't know enough to allow the abuse of fish. good luck

yeah its probably because of the conditions he was being kept him, they slow growth and so also slow healing, should grow back but could you post some pics of him? if the bites go all the way into the actual body then they wont grow back, but as long as the damage is just within the fins themselves then it should grow back fine with good clean water, some salt and good diet

if the tears in the fin are all the way to the body of the fish i dont believe they will grow bacj
