I have freshwater stingrays so I do water changes often. I siphon water from the tank into a 30 gal Rubbermaid trash can that sits on a dolly (used to move furniture). I then wheel the dolly into the furnace room (next to the fish room) and the water goes down the floor drain.
Last year, I started to water my wife's garden with the old tank water. We are on a well so I don't like to waste water. Figured the tank water would have free fertilizer in it and make the veggies grow. I would fill 5 gal buckets and lug them down to the garden.
Anyway, it wasn't much fun lugging the buckets so this year I came up with a better idea. The garden is about 60' from the house, downhill. I attach a garden hose to the outlet of a Mag 18 pump and throw it into the trash can. Run the hose out of the fish room window (fish room is actually in a finished basement and the window is just above ground level) and down to the garden. Plug the pump into a power strip and head outside. Turn the power to the pump on and go water the garden. Works great! Just enough pressure to water the plants without blasting the dirt away and no more sore shoulders.
