We are currently facing some quite strict water restrictions locally and I was wondering if there was any process whereby I could recycle the water collected from regular water changes so it could cleaned/ reborn and be used in my tanks again. Currently it is used to water the garden along with household grey water.

I wonder if it is boiled if it becomes distilled? You would have to add chems but I think that would work.

I wouldnt know how to remove nitrates unless you put the old water through an RO unit. With my old water, I dump it into large bins as a storage place to water the garden's. Win Win in my situation. Because, as we all know, fish water water is better for plants than chlorinated tap water.

We're getting that here too, Georgia is even worse.

It's possible, what size tank or better still how much water are you going thru a week (this is F/W right?).

And how much outside space do you have. (not an apt. I hope)

.

I am currently running 14 tanks, 6 x 200litre, the rest between 100 and 150 litre. They are all freshwater, mixture of cichlids both american and african, therefore PH6.8 to 8.3.
Have some space outside, only problem there is dogs and two young children, all of whom love to play in/with water. I normally do a 25 to 30% water change, have cut this back to fortnightly water parameters allowing and have reduced feeding to keep nitrates down while still keeping fish healthy. Any advise would be appreciated
