Guys, I just bought a 400litre aquarium and 6 piranha's.

Somebody told me I could keep fish in a barrel for days.. I kept them in the barrel, because I didn't have time yet to fill the aquarium yet. When I came back, I saw 4 where floating on there side on the top, so a very bad sign. I quickly put water in the tank, cursed the person for his bad advice, attached the external filter, the internal filter and an airflow device. It turned out that 3 are ok now, 1 died.. and 2 others are still on their side since yesterday. One at the bottom (on its side), I see his mouth moving, and one at the top (on its side), the one at the top was breating yesterday, but it's less active now. What should I do?? I have removed the element that generates heat, so that the temperature lowers.. my filters are on since yesterday, and also the airflow device. Can somebody help me?? It looks as if one of those 2 on their side is going to die.. it is breating less now.. and the one at the bottom sometimes moves its fins when you touch it an is breating fine as far as I see it.. I am afraid though that these 2 will die too.

keep light to a min and try to not stress them, to be honest you will just have to wait and see unless you have a seperate mature tank to put them

Thanks for your response. The other 2 died too.. There are still 3 that are alive and well, thank God. How much light do they need? I have 2 amazon light tubes..

I run my lights 8 hr a day . If the 3 are active go ahead and introduce light
mor and more hours each day/weeks .
(did the three eat in there new home yet)
How big are they ?

I threw some dry cockroaches in the tank, but they didn't eat them.. I think they had a severe trauma.. The roaches were floating on top, should I throw something in that sinks to the bottom

they are between 15 and 20cm. Why do they by the way need extra light? My room is full of light during the day, and at night it's dark. Do I have to put the light tube?

If your tank gets some sun then no I guess you do not have to have
lights but it makes good for looking at fish .
And you may not want to leave them cockroches in the tank to long not
eaten . P's are were about eating till they feel compterble

Ok well Ive moved my piranhas before here and there, and they always flop and just float around on their sides...their just really stressed. I dont have much advice except just wait it out. If they move around here and there and when you touch them they move they should be fine. But nothing is guaranteed. Let me know how they do.

keeping the fish in a barrel??!

you have to cycle the tank ASAP and put the fish in there and just hope for the best.

for now, add some salt to the water, about 1 tablespoon per 5 gallons of water, and do daily water changes of 50% (remember to replace the salt everytime) and begin the set the tank up NOW.
