my 14inch male mm is doing great for years eating fine and all is very active and never have problems with him. but i just finished feeding the tank (tilapia filet) and after he ate a bunch and was all stuffed he was swimming around and i was looking at his bottom side and notices the anus area is red.... i dnt think that is good but yet again idk, i do weekly to twice a week 25% water changes have had fish for years and rays, i havent tested my water in quite some time and no longer own a test kit. every fish in the tank is fine and the ray seems to b fine and hasent been acting funny at all. wondering whats up with the redness, any one ? thnx

....the redness went away already idk.... if any one has any ideas what it was thnx if not all good

I will refrain from posting any of the 4 or 5 funny comments that came to mind. Sorry...;)

Its called "PROLAPSE" mostly caused by overfeeding. There are threads on it. Lmk if u cant find it ill try and search it up for you.:)

prolapse is when the anus (and internarl part falls away) to leave a protruding lump of internal fles hanging from the anal openning!!
this to me is not a prolapse!
many rays can get this from simple stuff like having a "rough" poo! or as said just a sore area from bottom substrate either way its nothing to worry about
where as a "prolapse" would be a worry and require re-insurtion of the dropped internal anal lining

I have similar issues with other species eating exclusivley tilapia at times it developed into prolapse anus and then resolved. I would suggest varying diet and lay off the tilapia for a few days. In short they could be constipated hold food until the anus inflammation goes away then feed pellets instead of tilapia for a bit and vary the diet in the future.
