i was just offered a pair of snooks. theyre still kinda small though. theyre in a 30 or 40 gallon. i was wondering what their growth rate was like.

For me they were not what I call an overly fast grower, took mine about a year to go from 2" to about 7".
I found them to be non aggressive (simply piscivores), in fact a bit timid, but they will eat any fish that fits in their mouth.
I kept them with other non aggressive cichlids without a problem, all live bearers or tetras would disappear.

Thanks. The male is prolly about 7" already. I ask because they won't be upgraded for a little while.

I just got one for my 210g. Ive only had it a little over a month and not seen any noticeable growth spurt, its about 4.5"

For a predatory fish i was surprised how timid and shy it is.

I find vegetarian fish to be much more aggressive and territorial than predators, and in nature, predators seem to only attack to eat, or when spawning.
I believe the perceived macho, anthropomorphic attitude of fish like Parachromis dovii, managuense, and many other predators to be highly misconceived.
Of course in all but the largest of aquariums, the cramped quarters create the unnatural behaviors many of us experience.

I have one in my 750g. Got him over 5 years ago size of a half dollar. He's 14" solid. But he hasn't really grown much over the past couple years
