I have a RBS at 8.5" long...no other RBS's in the tank. I bumped my temp up from 78 to 80 and have done everything else the same. The next day I noticed my water was very cloudy and when I tried to figure it out I noticed a pit dug out at one end of the tank. My RBS would go and pick up a mouthload of substrate and move it causing a little cloudyness. I then noticed a swollen abdomen and that "she" would chase other fish away that came too close, including an 11" P. flavescans. I did see a small extension that I believe to be it's ovipositor. I have a few questions about this.
Is this indeed a female and if so how do I go about trying to find a proven male?
What are some defining sexual dimorphic differences?
I hear that they need to lay eggs on a piece of slate...is this true?
I had only found one site that gave a step by step account of a RBS spawn and am wanting to hear from MFK members their experiences.
Thanks in advance,
Justin
