im planing on getting a couple red bellies by the end of summer. i want to know what should feed them and what i cant feed them. also is there any thing i should know i already know the basics of fish keeping.

there shy, u can feed them catfish, shrimp, most any kind of ''freshwater fish'' beef heart for treat, if u feel u want to feed them live food, stay away from feeders, like gold fish, minows, carp(koi), they have no food value , and carry growth inhibators, mine like a convict here and there, they can get to 12 inches, they do better in schools of at least 3, a good tank size for 3 full grown RBP's is a 100 gallon, feed them as much as they will eat, they are messy eaters so make sure you have extra filteration, temp can be from 78 to 82 degrees, when there small they can be canaiblelistic, so keep a eye on them, probley the most commen Piranha for sale=beautyful fish, but very shy, if u were thinking they might be like chileds, there not, there differnt,

Yeah there very shy as said before, but providing cover helps out a lot...Big plants, driftwood...really recreate an amazon on your tank. Avoid bright lighting, and feeders. I like to feed them blood worms, shrimp and rarely feeders.

How big of a tank do you have Hayden? To keep piranhas for life you will need a large tank. I wouldnt even recommend a solitary RBP in a 55 gallon for any extended amount of time. You would want to feed them prepared food such as tilapia or whiting, prawns are excellent too. Try to stay away from feeders no matter how much the urge to feed them. If you absolutely have to feed live then quarantine them for about a month before feeding them.
