That's just a normal Jack Dempsey. They will and can change color allot.

I had a jack that looked like this. Colors are so broad in a lot of fish.

actually the head of my jd turned a bit red, it was only temporary and i think he might have bumped it

This is actually a desirable trait to a lot of us.
I just bought 3 JDs from Tangled up in cichlids (Jeff Rapp)
Because they had the red on them.
