Hello,
I am trying to procure all of the information I can about breeding and raising the red bellied pacu. Does anyone here have knowledge of such an attempt or possible resources. I live in SC and plan to raise them in indoor, lined and heated ponds.
Thanks guys,
Chuck

With the thousands already being caught, raised and sold in every store to thousands of people who will never be able to house them properly, why would you want to try and breed them?

Nicely written. Totally agree with you aswell.

My bad.. I guess I should have introduced myself and my motives for pacu breeding. First of all I believe it is very inhumane to raise large fish in small tanks. I once raised pacu in Florida in a converted swimming pool of ten thousand gallons and was surprised at their growth rate, strength, etc. Now zip ahead to present time... my brother is a retired missionary and he and I recently built a sixty bed orphanage in Sumatra to house tsunami orphans. Email privately for pics. Anyway the construction of the building done we desparately are looking for some type of sustainable aquaculture program to both feed and employ the local population and i remembered about my florida pacu. We are hoping to do the reasearch and pilot breeding here and then hopefully get a breeding program started there. It was difficult trying to get support for the mission during good times and almost impossible now so we are hoping for a self sustaining program to work there. They are in dire need as are so many right here in the US. God bless us all and hope we all get thru this. Thanks for taking the time to read this lengthy post. I will say up front, I am NOT a hobbyist but do admire the work some of you have done and do sincerely appreciate your expertise. Happy holidays and have a happy new year.

Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to sustain an aquaponic system and you feed a village for a pretty long time.
