Above thread for reference on the fish. Pictures included
1. Tank is 115-125 gallons.
2. Using 5 in 1 test strips (I know), Nitrites undetectable, Nitrates in the 20-40ppm range (he is due for a water change, but this is better than the 200+ it was).
3. Freshwater with delusions of being tropical
4+5. Bubba and the aquarium have been there 5+ years, perhaps 7. Bubba is the only fish in the tank.
7. Setpoint is 77 F, I have been gradually increasing it from 70-72 F when he lacked a heater.
8. No plants yet, preparing to add some floating plants in baskets to help with nitrates.
9+10. Filter is a Cascade 700, water change of 30-50 gallons weekly along with filter media cleaning (using tank water, not tap water). Media is entirely fiber sponge.
11. Light is from office fluorescent tubes and an additional small over lid light. Some algae growth.
12. Last week, 30-40 gallons, substrate is vacuumed best as I can with suction.
13. Food is generally frozen vegetables, obtaining some pellet food for additional enrichment.
14. Color change on 2/25/2015 from darker to lighter pigmentation. Bit easier to see the reddish color on the belly. No obvious signs of bacteria or fungus on body, but gills a bit blacker.
15. No treatment yet.
So Bubba did some overnight color changing, trying to figure out if he spooked at something, water quality did something strange or he has an actual problem. Any help you can give will be appreciated.
