h ithere, i have read in many places that Reds can be kept with plecs of a decent size... why do the P's not eat them, is it a risk, or do they just not attack them, or does it differ with each fish? thanks very much

its ALWAYS a risk with p's. people on here will tell you that eventually all tank mates will become food. however i have seen that you can keep mollies (i think) and they did so well in there to the point of they bred, and have been in there for years so... choice is yours but i wouldnt

I kept a common pleco that was around 9" with 7-8 rbps about 5" long, it lasted a bit more than a month just fine but one morningall that was left was an empty head, the rbps had eaten the rest.

I'm in the process of testing a 3" raphael cat with my 3 - 3" reds. I really needed something to clean up the scraps and I'm hoping he will do the job. I've been lucky so far becuase I have 6 tetras and some danios and they've only taken down two danios in two months.

I think that the raph is the best idea for a rbp tank they are nocturnal unlike the p's.just besure to have a hollow concealed area(driftwood or cave) for him to hid in during the day

Good Idea!! In my 110g. with Piranhas, crawdaddys, and several plecos, alot of hiding places is needed. Though I have found several heads of plecos even to very well feed killers!! Good Luck.:)

they will eventually be eaten. theres alot of things that contribute to the likeliness or the chances of survival. such as the size of the piranhas, their attitude, the size of the tank, the feedings of the piranhas, decors to hide in/under, speed of other fishes, etc...

ive tried exodons, plecos, danios, tetras, and mollies. the ones that lasted a while were the plecos and the tetras. the pleco hardly moved and was big and lasted for almost a year, and the last tetra survived for about 4 months, could of been longer if i had more decors.

Wow, the Pleco lasted a full year. My lasted for about a month. Then found head. The end!:D
