Are Red Bellys jumpers? I want to keep them in a open tank with magroves but dont want them to end up on the floor

mabey if theyre spooked to the extreme
but mine have never jumped
atleast not when i was around.....

anyone else have an experience with this?

not usually jumpers but i did have one that spooked so hard when i turned on the lights he jumped out and i had to save his life. i would put a top on it.

I keep many reds-
Some will be skiddish and other wont be---Alls one can do is make their setup as comfy feeling as one can and hope they got some non skiddish stock....Planty of hiding spaces and territorial breaks should be added..Basically anything that can break their site from eachother is recommended....Keep them heavily fed and maybe add some top cover for them as well...

It's all a crap shoot when dealing with reds Sir...

I am replacing the top to my 120 so half my tank is open. I was worried about this too, but nothing has gone wrong so far. I would guess you would be fine w/o a top, but there is always a chance for a freak accident. Its your call...

After a five+ years of previous ownership of RBs I can say I have never seen them jump... never. They do get spooked though and I could possibly see that being a problem. I never took the chance and on my new tank I will not. I always kept them covered. They had established territories as well as a spot they would grp up when frightened and/or feeding. They would always went there when they lights came on. Some what covered area in the front-mid right side of the tank.

I have lost 1 that jumped out of the tank. Although the tank was overcrowded I only had a small 2" slot in the back of the acrylic tank and I woke up one morning and heard some flopping and there it was on the floor slightly dried out. I wasn't sure if it would be ok so I put it back into the tank. It may have lived if I had a dedicated tank to put it in, but the others ate him before the day was over.

ya i had a single rbp before i got my shoal and it was a skitish SOB... turning the lights on would make him go crazy and try to jump out of the tank.. hitting the lid several times..
