I am considering buying some of these. How long are they at sexual maturity? Are they easy to breed? What do you do to breed yours? If I get some it will be 3 in a species tank.

you realize they will easily hit 24"+ right? hope you got a big tank....

Depends on what you consider big - I have 29 gallons, 55's, 75's, 120's, a 220, and 2 90's. So are you familiar with pacu breeding or did you just want to point out obvious?

... thats kind of mean he was just trying to help i mean some people just think they look cool they dont accutally know how big they grow so i think u should apologize

Pacu would outgrow all of those tanks, and i find it pointless to breed and give people more pacu for undersized tanks. Get a pool, then consider about breeding them..

I think you will need nothing short of a 1/2 acre pond for them to breed. My question is why? The last thing this hobby needs is a surplus of pacus. Even if you get them to breed, what are you going to do with the babies? Sell them to the LFS for like a buck a piece? You know that 90 out of 100 that you sell will live a tortured life, right? They shouldn't even be sold in a fish store, let alone bred inside the hobby.

I don't plan on selling them. I have a buddy with a new water garden down in Florida that wants a school of these. He's been in the hobby for 20+ years. I guess I was a little "hostile" there, perhaps the result of a 2 day power outage and sleep deprivation...lol.
BTW, well aware of a pacu's requirements, looks like a nice reason to get a new tank...:)

To be honest, I don't think it will be possible in a tank. He should look into rescuing some that have outgrown other peoples tanks. That way he will be doing a service to the hobby while getting what he wants. Heck, I would give him mine if I knew they were going to have a whole water garden to roam with tons of friends in a huge school. Thats how they are meant to live...not in a glass box.
