I live in South Africa, Gauteng, highveld region. One of my aquariums is a 240 gallon aquarium, with a tiger oscar and two red belly pacu. Tiger oscar is around 20 cm, and one pacu is also 20 cm, my other pacu however is now 33 cm, and I got all these fish at the same time about 11 months ago, grown them all from an inch long. I feel my tank is now getting to small, and I want to get rid of the smaller pacu, who seems to have stopped growing at 20cm for a few months now. I have a friend that lives a little higher up in the province and she has a dam that has been built on her farm. I am welcome to let my pacu go in it.. Its not a huge dam and they keep barbel, karp and swans in it. The water temperature there drops to between 14 and 16 degrees Celsius in winter. Can my little pacu survive in this temp? Sorry about the long post.

If he's a monster he may live but probably not.

Looks like the coldest it gets in its home is 18c.

if its a man made pond with fish put in it by man and it isnt near any natural waters then how is it any different than putting it in a pond someone put in there back yard?

I won't release any fish in any water body that has a DAM. It's not really closed and isolated waterbody.

It is a man made dam, totally isolated from any rivers lakes or natural water sources, there is no running water into it from anywhere. Its Still water that relies on our annual rainfall. The carp and barbel that the dam is stocked with are not native fish to south africa either. one of my main concerns is that the water is still and murky. Which is perfect for carp and barbel but I dunno about pacu?

I wouldn't do it, sounds like he won't be very happy anyway but there is also a big difference from nonnative carp and pacu in a lake

What else can I do with these pacu? Maybe I can keep one, and just have him and the oscar in the 240 gal. But the smaller one is getting bullied by the other pacu and oscar. I feel its very unfair. No one will take him cause they illegal here.
