anyone think that a shallow (so they are visable) indoor piranha pond is a good idea?

i was thinking about using a sheet of ply for the base so the foot print would be 4' by 8'. the water depth would be 12"-18"

it would have a sump and a sand substrate (again to make the fish visable)

i was thinking putting 1 dozen juvinile rbp's in and let them grow nice and fat!!!! what do you guys think about this?? work it work/look good?

would work and look good imo it is all what you like i would try to go with a natural theme for the p's and do some nice driftwood and lots of hiding places/cover for them.

what about red bellied pacu if i made the water 3' - 3.5' deep?

how many could i put in this? im guessing 3 or 4?

you could probably do more than that you would just need to have better filtration and higher volumes of water changes

any problems putting giant gurami and pacu together? i wouldnt imagine as they both preferr vegetables and fruits etc....

Hi, I've got a 14 inch red belly pacu in a 6 by 4 by 2 foot deep stock tank.

It was nervous to start with, sitting on the bottom and looking up - trying to hide behind the pond filter etc. I put a 90l plastic dustbin in for a cave and it spent a week in there before coming out and hanging out as normal. Probably because it was used to seeing out of it's old glass tank sideways.

So far as I understand it, adult giant gourami's are fairly placid but the medium size ones are nasty. Having said that I'd put one in with my pacu (given enough filtration/water changes) because from all I've read a pacu will not tolerate being bullied. The gourami would probably just shred my plecs instead and this tank may not be big enough for the pacu itself long term.

This stock tank has only had the pacu in it for a month and I transfered it using my existing filters and put in a pond filter. I'm not using as much heating power (about 300W max) as I expected but need yet more filtration - 30l of alphagrog is going in next...
