i have 3 red belly piranhas that are about 5years old now and would like to add to the pack ( another 2/3 ) of the same size would this be a problem or would this be ok?

will my fish kill the new ones?

thanks, Gav :confused::confused::confused:

It depends on the size of the tank. when my friend added new ones to his pack, it took them a few weeks to get settled. I would recommend feeding them until they are full and place the new ones in the tank with some kind of screen and watch the aggression level for a while.

good advice. You could also turn down the heat a little to lower aggression.

but dont add more unless you have a plenty large enough tank!

terrible advice, i'm sorry, but when you stick a screen in the middle of your future shoal of piranhas, it is only going to cause a huge increase in aggression as they fight over the newly opened up territory once the screen is removed.

the best thing you can do is add them during a water change when your existing shoal is already confused and wondering what is going on... just do your large water change, place the new fish in the tank, and fill the tank up with water, none of them will have any idea what the hell just happened and as long as they are all of similar size, they should get along fine.
