So heres my dilemma. I currently have 8 rbp's. Ive had them for a while now and they are about 6" s now. I really want to try a different piranha specie Im just not sure what I should do. Any advice????

There are some options you can take:

1.- If your setup in not big enough you can swap 2 or 3 reds for the same number of caribas or terns and keep them along with the restant reds, so you are having a nice mixed shoal.

2.- If room is not a problem, get yourself some caribas and even piraya and enhance your P's collection.:headbang2

3.- If you dont have enough room and you got tired of your reds, i wouldnt advise to swap them for a solo piranha tank. from my own point of view, it is better a tank with several specimens than a tank with solo, but it depends of points of view and likes, so i would definetly look into options 1 and 2 but that's me.

Cheers.

I'm running into the same dilemma (well actually in reverse as I have rhom and thinking rather I should get a shoal of caribes), you are not alone. :)

if you can get more tanks then keep both, if you can't then ask yourself if you really want to have a solo piranha? they can be quite skittish unless you get a large specimen like 10" plus or get really lucky and get one that's not shy when small. if you enjoy a feeding frenzy then keep the shoal. if you enjoy looking at one beautiful fish then you can try rhom. or you can try a Geryi cohab :)

I agree with this. Do you have the patience to grow a small, skittish Rhom into a larger fish. It will take a while, and depending on the Rhom's personality, you may be bored with it.

I personally would rather have a Pygo shoal.

thanks for the advice. Ill let you know when I finally decide.....

or you can buy my 6.5" black diamond :)
wait..just realized that you are in Canada, never mine ;)

My shoal is one tank that I would not get rid of. It is the most exciting and the best to look at.

I am not poo pooing a solo tank, cuz I love all my solo tanks as well, however, if I could only keep 1 large tank and had a choice between multiple fish or a single fish, I would choose the shoal.

I think a lot of people get out of the piranha hobby altogether because piranhas are just generally a shy chill fish. The question is, would you rather have one shy fish, or a shoal of shy fish? Also, shoals may be a little more outgoing because they find strength in numbers. A lot of serra keepers get bored. Matter of fact, I tried to sell mine not long ago.
