Your small red belly might get eaten. I had a bunch of red-bellied piranhas before and they were a big disappointment. They are very skilttish and would crash into everything when I turned on the light. They do get into a feeding frenzy but I kind of felt bad for feeders I gave them because it took a long time for them to eat a feeder. I just ended up giving them beef heart and then sold them. The Doctor.
that big of a size difference would be bad. 1 inch at most. and as for the skittishness of RBP's... they are only skittish if they dont have enough cover. They are fairly anxious animals so tons of plants and hiding places are a must for all piranha, especially red bellies

not true if you're doing a shoal. you can get away with some pretty big size differences if you have numbers on your side. however, if the original poster is just talking about 2 red bellys in a tank period, i wouldn't bother. save your money, get a bigger tank and try again
