I REALLY want a tankmate for my red belly piranha. But I am 99% sure nothing can go with it and survive. He's about 4" or 5". Can anything live with him? From plecos to inverts or anything?

Thanks.

I have kept red bellies personally and at a store i worked at for years. The best (and possibly only) tank mates for them that i have had success with are the Exadon Paradoxus. I dont really know the common name of the fish and may have butchered the latin but you should be able to find them at a good local store. I would add 3 to 5 of them and keep in mind that they are also somewhat viscous. I would add some hornwart or weighted down egeria densa or some other dirt cheap plant (that it doesnt matter if they ruin over time) just to provide the fish some way to get away from each other. I hope this helps. If it doesnt, please dont be too mad at me.

Google came up with Bucktooth Tetra... Does that sound right? Also I saw them at my LFS in a tank with some fugu puffers.

Exodons might do well but they might not I'd suggest getting more Red bellies.. How many do you have now?

Just one. The fish store had a tank of them when they were about 2" and they all had nipped fins and bodies, except for this one and they all seemed to shy away from him as if they were all scared of that single one. So i just had to have him. I was hoping something to change it up a bit in the tank, not another one. Anyways I wouldn't wanna risk the death of this little guy.

I've heard exodOns are hit or miss and if he adds more piranha wouldnt they fight? The only thing I would suggest is a large common pleco once you get your 75 gallon

Common Plecos can get 2'. The RBP's may fight, but they may not.. You'll never know until you try..
