THANKS :newbie:

Red Bellied Pacu? You have 5 in a 50? Uhhhh.....you're screwed. I had one in a 55 with some other tank mates and it's body got to be the size of frisbee....not including fins. It was eating so much cichlid gold I had to buy two of the large bags a week. It would eat so fast the others couldn't eat...it was like a vacuum....so I just kept dumping more in untill everyone got some. I finally gave it to my LFS who sold it to a lady with a 1800 gallon pond. If it is still alive I would love to see how big he is. We miss ya spock.

sfish

they can get upwards of ten inches or more, your tank probably will not work for life for those fish cause i imagine the foot print isnt wide enough

the largest I've seen was 13"head to fin

Red Belly Piranhas (Pygocentrus nattereri) get to about a foot.
Red Belly Pacu (Colossoma macropomum) get over 3'.

When they feel crowded they eat one, the problem is self correcting. In most tanks they top out at 10-12" but I had a solitary that reached 14"+, it was a lazy pig.

if you do infact have five red belly piranhas in a 50g you may want to consider getting rid of two of them to decrease the agression in the tank and make it more comfortable and less stressful for the fish

If you want to keep them in there for a long time, I'd take the numbers down to two. Thats if they're natties. Which they most likely are.
