I have just purchased a pair of these goldfish for my daughters 10 gallon tank set up and was wondering. Are the fish different genders? How can I tell? If they are will they breed without any persuasion from us (humans)? Just a thought. Any reply with educational information would be greatly appreciated.

When mature the male goldfish will have little bumps on the gill plates most of the time. You can YouTube videos to show you how to tell the differences too, probably your best bet. They will breed without help from us, given the right conditions, but a lot of goldfish fanciers prefer to milk both parents and keep the fertilized eggs in a hatching bin and then growout bins. These guys can easily get 8-10 inches, plan on a tank upgrade within a year, small goldfish can be grown out a bit in a 10 gallon but at about 3 inches they need some more room, and if you have two you will have to really keep up on water changes for them. Honestly, there aren't a lot of people on MFK that only keep goldfish or koi, so for more specific questions you might want to find a goldfish or koi site instead - however - this site is great help for aquarium questions, filtration, etc and even if I went to only keeping goldfish I would still be here for that reason alone.
