My crib
Hi there,

I am looking to buy some large pieces of driftwood. I am considering Red Cedar due to the look but I am concerned whether or not this will hurt my tank as Red Cedar is prone to naturally repel bugs/pests. The place that is selling the pieces specialize in Red Cedar and said:

"I always power wash (well water) the driftwood several times for aquarium use, sometimes sand blast it and power wash again. I do have the means to boil large pieces, this is very dry red cedar, it has dried out for over a year. There is no sap in my driftwood."

What are your thoughts/experience regarding Red Cedar driftwood? Should I be concerned?

Thanks

i have a piece of cedar in my tank, well atleast it was sold as cedar, and I've seen no problems since the three weeks I put it in my tank.

I wouldn't use it. Cedar contains natural oils which repel insects. These oils will leach into your tank and may harm your fish.
