No it isn't safe. Stay away from soft woods, stay away from cedar especially.

are there any types of wood that are reddish in color?... i have a beautiful red rock i use as a cave and i want to keep the color around the same if i could

None that will be cheap, and safe.

Find you a piece of mahogany. It won't be cheap, but it sure is pretty.

well my dad's friend is in the tree business... so finding a particular type of wood isnt difficult... i just dont kno what to use

Oak is a good choice.
Better to pick an old weathered piece with no bark, not a fresh green piece.
But tree surgeons often remove old dead branches from trees, or remove dead trees, so you should be able to find something usefull.
